Overview / Comments
As the only mall of its size between Fort Worth and Albuquerque with the two nearest centers each more than 100 miles away – South Plains Mall draws from a vast trade area extending from West Texas into eastern New Mexico. With its five anchors and 150 specialty stores, this super-regional mall generates over 10 million shopper visits annually.
From its location off South Loop 289, South Plains Mall is easily accessible to the 332,777 residents of Lubbock, the second largest city in West Texas, and the balance of the trade area. Lubbock residents enjoy a lower cost of living and lower unemployment than most of the nation, with the market’s diverse and stable economy led by agriculture (mainly cotton), health care, wholesale and retail trade, services and government sector. Retailers at South Plains Mall have also benefit from the presence of Texas Tech University and TTU Health Sciences Center, which enrolls more than 37,000 students and employs nearly 10,000 faculty and staff members.
